Whether it is a personal drink or a gathering with friends, red wine is a very good choice. Yet despite its popularity, it produces terrible stains. Red wine stains are different from ordinary stains. If you only use ordinary cleaning methods, they will not work at all. There is also a lot of controversy over the method of removing red wine stains. What some people think is very useful, others think it's useless.

Depending on your wine stain, let’s talk about different treatments.

Wet red wine stains.

The sooner you wash the red wine stain, the better. These methods work wonders on wet wine stains.

Salt

If you have salt near you, spread a thick layer over the wine stained area, be sure to cover the stain completely. Let it sit for an hour, the salt will absorb the wine, and the wine stain will be easily wiped off. Salt is preferred for stain removal, but it is most effective within 2 minutes of the wine being sprinkled. Salt crystals can easily absorb red wine if the wine hasn't fully soaked into the clothing. Since most natural fabrics, such as cotton, denim, and linen, absorb faster than synthetic materials, stains on natural fabrics should be much faster than synthetics.

Soda water

Pour soda water over the stained area until the color is gone. Once the stain is removed, wring out the laundry and use a paper towel to clean up the spilled soda. It is recommended not to use scented sodas, especially colored sodas, when removing wine stains. Dyes and sugars and other ingredients can cause more stains.

If you have both salt and soda, first quickly cover the stain with a thick layer of salt, then pour over the soda and let it sit for an hour before brushing off the salt and cleaning up the excess liquid. Both can work individually, but using them together will double the effect and even achieve complete stain removal. The salt will absorb as much of the liquor as possible, while the soda will remove stains.

Milk

Pour the milk over the heavily stained area and allow it to fully soak into the clothing. Then use a towel or tissue to absorb the stain, but do not rub it. In about an hour or less, the stain can be removed. Then wash off excess fluids and odors as you would with your daily laundry. Another method is to soak the fabric in a bowl or bucket of milk, depending on the size of your stain. This method is more effective if the wine-stained fabric is easier to move and the dyed area is larger.

Dry wine stains.

If the stain has dried, see if you have any of the following materials.

Shaving cream

Spray the shaving cream foam over the stain. Use a spoon to flatten the shaving cream, then wash it as usual. The shaving cream foam has miraculous effects for stubborn stains, since it is very thick and combined with the cleaning ingredients inside.

Vodka

Pour the vodka over the entire stain, blot the stain with a cloth and continue pouring. Let the vodka soak completely and see if the stain fades, then wash it daily. Red wine contains anthocyanins or pigments, which can be dissolved in alcohol. Vodka or other alcohol-rich wines can be used to remove wine stains.

Silk and wool are particularly fragile fabrics that cannot be chlorine bleached. Also, linen and synthetics tend to be more durable, while cotton is in the middle. If the clothes is “dry clean only”, it should be taken to the dry cleaner as soon as possible, preferably within 1-2 days, and do not attempt to wash it yourself.
