Why the collar turns yellow?

It is difficult to remove yellow stains on collar and cuff, because these two parts often rub close to the skin, easily resulting in sweat, sebum and dander. Plus coupled with repeated friction force, stains will more easily infiltrate into the fiber, leading to more difficult to clean.

Sebum (oil) and dandruff (protein) are slowly oxidized by the air, which reduces unsaturated bonds and makes them harder to flow and even solidify (like margarine, which hydrogenates from free-flowing vegetable oil to solid butter). After the amide group of the protein is oxidized by the air, the amino group's electron absorption ability changes and causes color changes, making it looks yellow (similarly, protein fibers such as wool and silk will be yellow after being oxidized), then the oxidized protein also becomes hydrophobic and more difficult to clean. Now, otherwise flowing grease and dander stick to collars and cuffs like glue, creating stubborn stains, hence it is important to clean them promptly.

The difference between Collar Cleaner and ordinary laundry detergent

The biggest difference between Protein Stain Remover Spray and ordinary laundry detergent is that the active ingredients of this spray are more concentrated and complex. Ordinary laundry detergent is used for cleaning dirt, sweat, food sauce and other stains which are not too stubborn, so the effective concentration is not too high. But the Protein Stain Remover Spray, targeted removing stubborn stains, is not the same. It contains many components in addition to the surfactant, in order to emulsify oil, protein, disperse dust, soluble dirt and so on.

Surface active agent

The surfactant in the Protein Stain Remover Spray reduces the interfacial tension by adsorbing on the interface of fabric, water, besmear oil, producing wetting, emulsifying and dispersing effects, so that the oil spread on the fabric is gradually "rolled" into hydrophilic fine oil beads. Then stains can be broken away from the surface of the fabric to achieve the removal effect by rubbing, washing and other mechanical forces. Because it is sprayed directly on the stains without dilution and the surfactant concentration is high (far higher than the critical micelle concentration CMC), the stronger emulsification and solubilization will result in higher stain removal efficiency.

Organic solvents

In addition to adding surfactant, which is thicker than laundry detergent, the Protein Stain Remover Spray is also filled with organic solvents, and regular laundry detergent does not contain these. Its main function is based on the principle of similar polarity phase dissolution, which can quickly dissolve and remove polar similar oil stains, such as human sebum, animal and plant grease, fatty acid, mineral oil and its oxides, paint, ink, resin, pigment pigment and other stains.

The organic solvents used in Protein Stain Remover Spray mainly include petroleum solvents, propyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, propylene glycol, benzyl alcohol, ethylene glycol ethers, propylene glycol ethers, limonene, terpene, ester solvents, methylpyrrolidone and so on, with a 3% - 15% dosage. The solubility of mixed solvents is usually stronger than that of a single solvent, and the range of dissolution is wider.

Protease

To remove protein stains like dandruff, the spray is added with protease. It can decompose the protein stains with high polymer or hard to dissolve in water  into small molecule polypeptide and amino acid, becoming water soluble and can be removed.

Some laundry detergents also add protease, but the protease in Protein Stain Remover Spray is generally selected to be more stable and not prone to deterioration and inactivation. Because the confusion and complexity of the active ingredients in the spray as well as the presence of oxidizing substances, the general protease is not easy to preserve in this situation.

Oxidants

Part of the stain pigment will penetrate into the fiber, as the collar cuff turns yellow,  It is difficult to remove even if rub and wash repeatedly, so it is necessary to use some peroxide oxidants. Oxidants can destroy the pigment structure of the colored stain, making it lighter in color and degrade to smaller water-soluble components to be removed.

Other ingredients

Because the Protein Stain Remover Spray contains a variety of targeted dirt removal components, so many things mixed together is easy to occur stratification, milk breaking, solidification of these bad phenomena. Not only reduce the decontamination effect, for the aerosol it will plug the nozzle. Hence, emulsifiers, dispersing chelators, pH regulators, preservatives are added to improve the stability of the entire spray.
