Many people choose to use dishwash liquid instead of liquid hand wash when their hands are stained. Some people think that dishwash liquid can wash the stains on the dishes, then it must be no problem to wash the stains on the hands. So is this really the case?

First of all, most dishwash liquid simply indicate that the ingredients are surfactants, plant extracts, water, and antibacterial ingredients. It is easy to make people think that the ingredients of the liquid hand wash are similar to those of the dishwash liquid.

But in fact, the composition of dishwash liquid and liquid hand wash is quite different. The main ingredients of dishwash liquid are surfactants (such as sodium alkyl sulfonate and sodium fatty alcohol ether sulfate), solubilizers, foaming agents, flavors, pigments, water and preservatives. The main ingredients of liquid hand wash are surfactants (fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether sulfate (AES) and a-alkenyl sulfonate (AOS), etc.), emollient moisturizers, fatliquors, thickeners, pH adjusters and antibacterial agents, etc.

If you can't see any difference in composition, then let’s compare the two in terms of use effect.

1. The effect of moisturizing

When washing hands with surfactants, although it can remove dirt, it will also remove the oil on the skin, resulting in chapped, rough and loss of elasticity of the skin (especially dry skin). Therefore, many liquid hand wash will add moisturizing ingredients to make people's skin moisturized and not tight after washing their hands. However, dishwash liquid is usually not added with these ingredients. If use it regularly, skin will become very dry.

2. The effect of degreasing

The active agents indicated in the diswash liquid are sodium alkyl sulfonate and sodium fatty alcohol ether sulfate which have a relatively good effect on removing kitchen oil stains. The indicated active agents in the liquid hand wash are mainly fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether sulfate and a-alkenyl sulfonate. Its ability to remove oil stains is not as good as dishwash liquid, but it is sufficient for removing oil stains from hands.

3. The antibacterial effect

Liquid hand wash usually contains antibacterial ingredients such as triclosan, but dishwash liquid usually do not contain antibacterial ingredients. Therefore, the use of liquid hand wash can play a bacteriostatic effect. Professional antibacterial hand wash can inhibit and eliminate 99.9% of bacteria, so it is better to use liquid hand wash to protect the health.

4. Irritation

Judging from the pH of the two, most dishwash liquid are alkaline. The pH of human skin is weakly acidic (pH is about 5.5), and washing hands with alkaline detergent will cause some irritation. Liquid hand wash usually add citric acid to adjust the pH of the product, so the product is weakly acidic. In addition, the pH is close to that of human skin, so the irritation of using liquid hand wash will be less.

On the whole, there is a big difference between dishwash liquid and liquid hand wash. If use dishwash liquid instead of liquid hand wash, then skin may become drier, and delicate skin is easily irritated. At the same time, for the point of safety and health, liquid hand wash can achieve the effect. The dishwash liquid is more suitable for cleaning kitchen utensils. Therefore, it is recommended to choose professional liquid hand wash to take care of the skin of hands.
