When you put the clothes into the dryer to tumble dry, add the clothing softener and clothing softener principle of action is the same, but the clothing softener in the softener is released into the air. The very small amount of clothing softener and anti-static substances added during drying diffuses in the warm air and penetrates into the wet material fibers, thus working.
Fabric softening agents are surfactants, chemicals that act to reduce the surface tension between two different substances. Soaps and detergents are also surfactants that act to reduce oil-surface tension, making it easier to wash away oily soils.
Surfactant molecules consist of two components: one component is soluble in oil but insoluble in water, while the other is the opposite. The proportion of fatty substances contained in fabric softener is usually high, and there are usually some long fatty chains with water-soluble groups, some of which are anionic (negative charge) or cationic (positive charge), and some are not charged (electrically neutral).
The fatty components of the fabric softener will form a very thin oily film on the surface of the fibers in contact with each other, so as to reduce the friction of the fibers sliding against each other, so that the moving surface can more easily slide across them. Cationic or non-ionic water-soluble groups are used to eliminate static electricity generated by the large number of anions attached to the clothing.
Typical cationic softeners are tallow-based dimethyl ammonium chloride, etc., while typical nonionic softeners are polyethylene glycol stearate, etc.
